It is with profound regret and sorrow that we inform you of the death of our good friend and ISU Honorary Member

Mr. Donald H. Gilchrist

Mr. Gilchrist passed away on March 14, 2017 at the age of 95. At the time of his passing he was an ISU Honorary Member and had been involved in Figure Skating for over six decades. Gilchrist was a former Canadian Champion in Pair Skating with his partner Marlene Smith. In 1951 he became a Figure Skating Judge and was the first Canadian delegate to participate at the 1951 ISU Congress in Copenhagen. From 1953 to 1980 he was part of the ISU Single & Pair Skating Technical Committee firstly as a substitute Member then as a Committee Member between 1969-1971 and 1973-1980.

In 1980 Mr. Gilchrist was elected ISU Council member, a position he held for 12 years and when he retired in 1992 he was elected ISU Honorary Member. Mr. Gilchrist was renowned for his technical expertise, he refereed and participated at countless competitions, including the ISU World Figure Skating Championships that were held in Canada in 1972, 1978, 1984 and 1990.

Mr. Gilchrist is survived by his wife, Christiane Gilchrist.
