2018 Olympic silver medalists Evgenia Medvedeva (RUS) and Shoma Uno (JPN) start their Grand Prix season at Skate Canada International as the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2018/2019 continues in Laval, QC.
Satoko Miyahara of Japan repeated as Skate America Champion, taking back-to-back titles in the event. Teammate Kaori Sakamoto made it a one-two finish for the Japanese Ladies, grabbing the silver medal, while Russian Grand Prix debutant Sofia Samodurova skated to the bronze.
The Ice Dance event produced several firsts: Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue (USA) danced to the first Grand Prix gold medal of their career while silver medalists Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri of Italy and bronze medalists Tiffani Zagorski/Jonathan Guerreiro of Russia made the podium at a Grand Prix event for the first time.

World champion Nathan Chen (USA) cruised to the men’s gold, taking the title with 40 points to spare. The Czech Republic’s Michal Brezina claimed the silver, his first Grand Prix medal in four years, and Sergei Voronov of Russia moved up one spot to earn the bronze.

Russia’s juniors celebrated a gold medal sweep at Czech Skate 2018 in Ostrava, the fifth ISU Junior Grand Prix event of the season. Czech Skate included the fourth and last Pairs event of the Junior Grand Prix series and the six qualifiers for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final are now determined.
