Short Track Speed Skating at the Gangneung Ice Arena conclude with the men’s 5000m Relay Final on Thursday. Korea, China, Hungary and Canada qualified, for what is set to be the climax of Olympic Short Track Speed Skating at PyeongChang 2018. Before the relay final the men will battle for the individual 500m gold and the ladies’ will compete for the 1000m medals.
Following the Ladies’ 3000m Relay Final A that took place in the Gangneung Ice Arena on Tuesday February 21, 2018, the ISU has decided to release the images that were reviewed by the referees and resulted in the penalties for China and Canada. No further comment will be given on this matter.
The expectations were high and the crowd made a deafening noise when their home favorites stepped on the ice, and Minjeong Choi, Alang Kim, Yejin Kim and Sukhee Shim delivered. The Korean ladies fought a tough battle in the Final A of the 3000m Relay, to come out on top at the Gangneung Ice Arena on Tuesday. Italy grabbed silver and the Netherlands took a surprise bronze after winning the Final B in a world record time, after Canada and China were penalized in the Final A.
Elise Christie (GBR) gave her everything at the Gangneung Ice Arena Tuesday, but the 27-year-old Briton, who damaged ligaments in her ankle crashing in the Ladies’ 1500m on Saturday, went out with a yellow card of the Ladies’ 1000m. In the men’s 500m heats, reigning World Champion went out on a penalty.
Tuesday night’s Short Track program builds up to a climax, with the ladies’ 1000m heats, the men’s 500m heats and the ladies’ 3000m Relay Finals B and A. The crowd will look forward to Team Korea, who qualified for the Final A in spectacular fashion. Korea will face China, Italy and Canada in the battle for gold.
Saturday’s Short Track Speed Skating program Gangneung Ice Arena makes up for more exciting competition in the ladies’ 1500m and the men’s 1000m. The Ladies will start with the heats and skate all the way to the final, while the men already finished their heats on Tuesday. They will skate the quarter, semi and finals on Saturday.
The Short Track Speed Skating competition continues on February 13 in the Gangneung Ice Arena with the Men’s 1000m heats and the Men’s 5000m Relay semifinals. But tonight, the excitement will be concentrated on the Ladies’ 500m races.
The atmosphere in the Gangneung Ice Arena for the Men’s 1500m final was electric. The race made Olympic history with nine finalists. Hyojun Lim (KOR) took advantage of the home crowd’s cheering to go get gold in a new Olympic Record time of 2:10.485.

Coveted as Korea’s favorite winter sport, the Short Track Speed Skating competition will “go to the start” today. The action-packed day includes the Ladies’ 500m qualifying heats (final on February 13) and the Ladies’ 3000m Relay qualifying heats (final on February 20) but the highlight of the day will be the Men’s 1500m final.
