Charles Hamelin (CAN)

The crowd roared from start to finish as Charles Hamelin (CAN) led from the front to take home gold in the Men’s 1000m A Final on Sunday at the World Short Track Championships in Montreal, Canada.

It’s his 11th World Championship gold and 34th medal overall.

Hamelin held strong throughout the race, increasing the gap to his nearest opponent with each lap until the end, when South Korea’s Lim Hyo Jun stormed back to make it a photo finish, coming in second in 1:22.283, compared to Hamelin’s 1:22.249.

Sjinkie Knegt (NED) won bronze.

Hwang Dae Hon (KOR) fell well behind to finish fourth while Samuel Girard was penalized for the second day in a row.
