ISU Council decisions in favour of skating’s ongoing transformation

06 Apr 2026

The International Skating Union (ISU) Council has discussed feedback from Member Federations related to communication on skating’s ongoing transformation.

Council Members received vital feedback during the ISU Figure Skating Members’ Conference in Prague and acted upon those in the ISU Council meeting the following day. The key updates included:

  • Council decided to revise the Competition and Event Regulations taking into consideration feedback received at the Members’ Conference.
  • The extension of the ISU Short Track World Tour from six to seven events in the 2026/2027 season. The decision comes as a result of Short Track’s considerable rise in recent years, leading to two events in each of Europe and the Americas and three in Asia.
  • As part of the implementation of the ISU’s new Constitution and Regulations, which are the cornerstone of the improved Governance promised in Vision 2030, the ISU Council adopted the Terms of Reference for the ISU’s Sports Medicine and Athlete Health Committee. The Committee will replace the current ISU Medical Commission, whose anti-doping oversight responsibilities will pass to the ISU’s new independent Skating Integrity Unit after the 60th Ordinary ISU Congress.
  • The Council approved the Agenda for the 60th Ordinary ISU Congress, which will take place in Tenerife (ESP) on June 10-12. The Congress – held on a biannual basis - will see the election of the ISU President, Vice-Presidents and Office Holders.
  • Subsequent to the recommendations of the 14th Olympic Summit in December 2025, the Council also received an update from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on reintegration of athletes under the age of 17 from both Russia and Belarus into the international community. No timeline is currently available for a further update in this regard.
  • The enlargement of the Members’ group was confirmed when the ISU Council accepted the accession of both the Iceland Skating Federation and the Kuwait Skating Federation to Provisional Membership of the ISU’s Speed Skating Branch.
