The ISU was informed by the Japanese Skating Federation (JSF) of the cancellation of the ISU Four Continents Speed Skating Championships, that was scheduled to take place from January 28 – 30, 2022 in Obihiro (JPN).
Unfortunately, considering the complicated epidemic situation involving travel restrictions, quarantine requirements, safety concerns and logistical challenges, the organization of the event was extremely challenging. The Japanese Skating Federation and the Local Organizing Committee tried their best to find solutions but ultimately concluded that, regrettably, they are unable to organize and hold the 2022 ISU Four Continents Speed Skating Championships.
The ISU regrets that the hosting of these Championships is no longer possible in Obihiro and thanks the Japanese Skating Federation for their efforts and cooperation.
The ISU Working Group in charge to monitor the Speed Skating season is currently evaluating viable options. Any Council follow-up action based on such evaluation will be published as soon as possible.
