The Safeguarding Essentials and IOC Safeguarding online courses are relevant to everyone working and participating in skating at any level.
The Safeguarding Practice and Effective Safeguarding online courses provide a deeper understanding of safeguarding in practice.
The SAYES (Safeguarding Young European Skaters) eLearning course is designed to teach skaters aged 12–16 about consent and boundaries. (Caution: the course content includes references to harassment and abuse, and sexual violence. Please take care while viewing).
The SAYES project was a collaborative initiative dedicated to creating safer spaces for young skaters across Europe. Backed by the Erasmus+ Youth program, SAYES brought together seven partners from four countries: the International Skating Union (ISU), national skating federations from France (FFSG), Hungary (Hunskate), and the Netherlands (KNSB), along with the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the association Colosse aux Pieds d’Argile.
The SAYES eLearning module equips young athletes with knowledge to prevent and respond to sexual violence in sport and takes the form of an interactive mini-game with 8 animated scenes based on real-life situations, allowing skaters to practice responding to inappropriate behaviours safely.
The Facilitator Guide helps coaches, safeguarding officers, or parents lead the e-learning module with young skaters in a supportive setting. It includes discussion tips, suggested activities, and guidance on how to create a safe, engaging learning environment.
The IOC and other bodies have created materials relating to Safeguarding and Safe Sport.
