The ISU skating family learned with profound sadness that Ice Dancer Chris Reed, who represented Japan, has passed away at the age of 30 on the weekend in Detroit, USA.

As a result of the recent United States’ travel ban of 26 European countries and the state of New York’s restrictions on gatherings over concerns of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, U.S. Figure Skating and the International Skating Union (ISU) are unable to organize the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships® 2020. The event was scheduled to take place April 3-4, 2020, in Lake Placid, New York, United States.

With the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Skate Canada and the International Skating Union (ISU), were informed today by the Government of Quebec that they have decided to cancel the ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2020. The event was scheduled to take place from March 16-22, 2020 in Montreal at Centre Bell.

At the time of publishing this statement, the ISU has not been informed of any specific decision from the Quebec Health Ministry in regard to the ISU World Figure Skating Championships scheduled to be held in Montreal on March 16-22, 2020.

As per the ISU Statement of March 2, the ISU, in consultation with the competent local authorities and the organizing ISU Members, is continuing to closely monitor the coronavirus developments and their impact on the upcoming ISU Events that at this time remain scheduled as planned

ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Kamila Valieva of Russia scored a runaway victory as competition at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships wrapped up Saturday in Tallinn (EST) with the Ladies Free Skating. 

Avonley Nguyen/Vadym Kolesnik (USA) came from behind to snatch the Ice Dance title in what was a close and exciting competition at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn (EST) on Saturday. Georgia’s Maria Kazakova/Georgy Reviya made history to win the first ISU Championship medal in Ice Dance for their country. Rhythm Dance leaders Elizaveta Shanaeva/Devid Naryzhnyy of Russia had to settle for the bronze.

Russia’s Andrei Mozalev skated to a confident victory at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Tallin, Estonia, on Friday, ending a series of silver medals. Yuma Kagiyama of Japan had to settle for silver and Russian Petr Gumennik soared from ninth to earn bronze.

Canadian Ice Dancer Piper Gilles, who competes with her partner Paul Poirier, was preparing for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 in the pre-Olympic season when she found out that her mother Bonnie was fatally ill.

ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Kamila Valieva of Russia claimed the lead in the Ladies Short Program as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships continued in Tallinn, Estonia, on Friday. Korea’s Haein Lee came second followed by Daria Usacheva of Russia.

Youth Olympic Champions Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov led Russia to a fifth clean sweep of the Pairs medals at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn on Thursday. Kseniia Akhanteva/Valerii Kolesov claimed the silver in the Estonian capital, with the bronze going to Iuliia Artemeva/Mikhail Nazarychev.

Elizaveta Shanaeva/Devid Naryzhnyy of Russia captured a narrow lead in the Junior Rhythm Dance as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships continued in Tallinn (EST) on Thursday. Georgia’s ISU Junior Grand Prix Final champions Maria Kazakova/Georgy Reviya (GEO) and Avonley Nguyen/Vadym Kolesnik (USA) are close behind in second and third place.

ISU Junior Grand Prix Final champions Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov topped a Russian sweep of the Pairs Short Program at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn (EST) Wednesday. Kseniia Akhanteva/Valerii Kolesov edged Iuliia Artemeva/Mikhail Nazarychev by just 0.18 points to come second. All teams set new personal best scores.
