Aleksandra Boikova/Dmitrii Kozlovskii of Russia took the lead in the Pairs Short Program. China’s Yumeng Gao/Zhong Xie came second and Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya/Harley Windsor of Australia placed third. All three teams set a new personal best for themselves.

Boikova/Kozlovskii’s performance to “Flamenco” by Didulia was highlighted by a double Axel, triple twist, level-four lift, footwork and spin, but she touched down with her hand on the throw triple flip. The ISU Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalists scored 61.27 points. “It was not our best, but we will try to do our best in the free skating”, Kozlovskii said. “Aleksandra and I are trying to maximize our connection so we can achieve the best possible results in the shortest time”, he added.

Skating to “Cavatina” from “The Deer Hunter”, Gao/Xie produced a triple twist, side by side double loop, triple throw toeloop and a level-four step sequence to earn 59.97 points. “Today’s performance was quite good, but we could have done better in some parts like the speed and the connection”, Xie told the press.

Alexandrovskaya/Windsor opened their program to “Skyfall” with a triple twist and followed up with a double Axel and a difficult reverse lasso. However, the throw triple flip was wobbly. The ISU Junior Grand Prix Finalists picked up 59.82 points. “Hopefully we’ll put out a good long program and we’re happy with our standing so far”, Windsor noted. “In such a short time, we’ve come a long way. Our results show our hard training”, he continued.

16 Pairs competed in the Short Program and all 16 proceed to the Free Skating on Friday. The ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships continue Thursday with the Short Dance and the Men’s Free Skating.
