The ISU is constantly working on developing the Skating sports and part of that process are rule changes. Rule changes reflect the growth of the sport and help to shape it in the desired way that it remains exciting, spectacular and can be judged. Figure Skating is a discipline that highlights athletic and artistic abilities more than any other sport and it is important to keep the right balance between them.

Several Skaters and Couples secured their spot in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final at the fifth event of the series in Gdansk (POL). Pair Skaters Anastasia Golubeva/Hektor Giotopoulos Moore (AUS) and Ice Dancers Nadiia Bashynska/Peter Beaumont (CAN) celebrated back to back victories while Ami Nakai (JPN) and Takeru Amine Kataise (JPN) took their first gold medals.

Mao Shimada (JPN) continued her winning ways in Gdansk and claimed her second gold medal on the circuit and her spot in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Lucas Broussard (USA), Pair Skaters Anastasia Golubeva/Hektor Giotopoulos Moore (AUS) and Ice Dancers Nadiia Bashynska/Peter Beaumont (CAN) celebrated the first Junior Grand Prix victory.

The International Skating Union (ISU) is proud to announce the launch of the very first World Ice Skating Day (WISD), an annual festival celebrating Ice Skating all over the world through multiple events taking place simultaneously on December 4, 2022. Its mission is simple: to reunite ice skating professionals, amateurs, beginners and newcomers to break social, economic and cultural boundaries and to ultimately encourage greater inclusion, youth involvement and future development of all ice skating disciplines.

Nikolaj Memola (ITA) and Pair Skaters Cayla Smith/Andy Deng (USA) became the first Skaters to seal spots in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (Dec. 8-11, 2022) with their win at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Riga (LAT) (Sept. 7-10, 2022). ISU World Junior silver medallist Jia Shin (KOR) struck gold in the Women’s event while Darya Grimm/Michail Savitskiy (GER) topped the Ice Dance podium.

Figure Skating is the only Olympic sport that has such elaborate and diverse costumes. The costume is an important part of the performance to many and the designers work hard to make a costume beautiful, suitable for the Skater and the program plus comfortable so that it does not get into the way when athletes do quadruple jumps or acrobatic lifts.

Newcomers Mao Shimada (JPN), Nozomu Yoshioka (JPN) and Sophia Baram/Daniel Tioumentsev (USA)  collected the gold medals at the second ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Ostrava (CZE) while Katerina Mrazkova/Daniel Mrazek won the first ISU Junior Grand Prix Ice Dance title for the Czech Republic.

Korean Ice Dancers Hannah Lim/Ye Quan claimed a historic first ISU Junior Grand Prix title in the discipline for their country, as the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2022/23 kicked off with the first event in Courchevel (FRA). Hana Yoshida and Shunsuke Nakamura continued Japan’s success in Single Skating after the country had sat out the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in the past season.
