Camden Pulkinen (USA) took the lead in a very competitive Junior Men’s Short Program as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships opened in Zagreb (CRO) on Wednesday. Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) placed second followed by Italy’s Daniel Grassl.

Italy’s Daniel Grassl skated into the spotlight this season by finishing sixth in his debut at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in January. Now the cheerful 16-year-old debuts at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships this week in Zagreb (CRO) and hopes to continue his ascent this season.

The World’s best young figure skaters will take center stage at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2019 in Zagreb, Croatia (March 4 - 10). Zagreb has hosted the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships once before in 1999, and has hosted the ISU European Figure Skating Championships several times as well as ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating events.

Finnish skater Viveca Lindfors has been on the rise this season and topped it off by taking the bronze medal at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk (BLR) in January. It was the first ISU Championship medal for a Finnish figure skater since Kiira Korpi had won silver at Europeans in 2012.

Canada’s Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje, who had sat out the Grand Prix series as well, earned the silver medal while fellow Canadians Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier pulled up from fourth to take the bronze.

Olympic silver medalists Wenjing Sui/Cong Han of China clinched victory in the Pairs event at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2019 in Anaheim (USA) on Saturday by just 0.06 points, overtaking Canadians Kirsten Moore-Towers/Michael Marinaro. Cheng Peng/Yang Jin, also from China, earned the bronze medal.

Kazakhstan’s Elizabet Tursynbaeva pulled up from sixth to claim the silver and Mai Mihara of Japan surged from eighth to snatch the bronze medal.
