It is with regret and sorrow that the ISU learned of the death of former Figure Skater, Mr. Karol "Karcsi" Emil Divín.

Karol Divín represented Czechoslovakia when competing in numerous Figure Skating Events throughout his career. He was the winner of the 1958 and 1959 European Figure Skating Championships, silver medallist at the 1962 World Figure Skating Championships, and bronze medallist at five other European Figure Skating Championships and at the 1964 World Figure Skating Championships. He competed at three Olympic Winter Games and won a silver medal at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Winter Games.

Following his career as a Figure Skater, Divín pursued coaching in Finland and Canada for several decades, including coaching Brian Orser in the 1980s and Michal Březina in the 2000s. He will be remembered fondly by the Skating family as an outstanding athlete and a kind person. The ISU pays tribute to Karol Divín and will remember him with affection.
