“Today’s performance I made some mistakes but everything I trained for was put on the ice other than the jumps and steps and spins,” Uno said.

“There were lacking elements where I could train extensively but once there are no concerns over my jumps I will be able to train for the steps and spins,” the World Champion explained.

“I won Worlds last year and just for everyone else it’s a new season and I am challenged just like everyone else. I am happy I was able to make it to the Grand Prix Final this year again.”

Yamamoto’s program to ‘Yesterday’ included a quad toe-triple toe, quad Salchow, triple Axel and three level-four spins. The NHK Trophy silver medalist earned 94.86 points.

“Today my Salchow was not perfect but I am happy I was able to skate without any mistakes and going into the free skating it will be a confidence boost. I will be confident to put everything out there for the free skating,” Yamamoto noted.

Miura landed a quad toe and triple Axel in his Tango routine, but he fell on the back end of his quad Salchow-triple toe combination. The Skate Canada silver medalist scored 87.07 points.

“Going into my quad-triple combo the Salchow was so perfect and felt so great and then I panicked because my first jump was so good and that’s something I need to reflect on,” he said.

“I was giving up on my concentration a bit. There are things that need to be improved. In the second part of the program I was able to recover with the (quad) toe loop,” Miura said.

Daniel Grassl (ITA) fell on his quad Lutz and currently ranks fourth on 80.40 points. ISU World Junior Champion Ilia Malinin (USA) struggled with the landing of his triple Axel, underrotated his quad Salchow and also stepped out of the quad toe-triple toe combination to come fifth (80.10 points). Shun Sato (JPN) missed his quad Lutz and finished sixth (76.62 points).
