The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series continues this week with the Grand Prix de France in Angers (FRA). The Grand Prix de France is the third of six events of the series in which the world’s best Figure Skaters compete and collect points towards the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN) on December 7-10. Reigning ISU European Champions Adam Siao Him Fa (FRA), Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii (ITA) and Charlène Guignard/Marco Fabbri (ITA) start their ISU Grand Prix campaign while World bronze medalist Ilia Malinin (USA) aims to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix Final in his second event.

Third stop: Grand Prix de France, Angers (FRA) (Nov. 3-5, 2023)

Women contenders

The ISU World silver medalist Haein Lee (KOR) and ISU European Champion Anastasiia Gubanova (GEO) start their ISU Grand Prix season in France and should be confident after collecting medals at Challenger events earlier this season. Following her silver medal at Skate America, Isabeau Levito (USA) is aiming for the podium again and looking to secure her spot in the Final. Other contenders are 2023 ISU European bronze medalist Kimmy Repond (SUI), 2023 ISU Four Continents bronze medalist Mone Chiba (JPN) and the 2018 ISU World silver medalist Wakaba Higuchi (JPN).

Men contenders

In the Men’s competition, the 2023 ISU World bronze medalist Ilia Malinin (USA) has the chance to become one of the first qualifiers for the ISU Grand Prix Final as he enters his second Grand Prix having won gold at Skate America. Malinin should expect competition from ISU European Champion Adam Siao Him Fa (FRA), who won his first three international competitions this season, and from 2022 Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama (JPN). Kagiyama is on the comeback trail and returns to the Grand Prix circuit after sitting out the past season due to injury. Others to watch include two-time ISU World bronze medalist Boyang Jin (CHN), 2023 ISU European bronze medalist Lukas Britschgi (SUI) and ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Nikolaj Memola (ITA), who debuts at the senior-level Grand Prix.

Pairs contenders

The ISU 2023 World bronze medalists Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii (ITA) lead the Pairs and will kick off their Grand Prix season in Angers. The challenge should come from Skate America silver medalists Lia Pereira/Trennt Michaud (CAN), who are aiming to qualify for their first ISU Grand Prix Final. The 2023 Finlandia Trophy Champions Ellie Kam/Danny O’Shea (USA) will compete in their first ISU Grand Prix as a team and have set their eyes on the podium too. Other competitors include Camille Kovalev/Pavel Kovalev (FRA) and Valentina Plazas/Maximiliano Fernandez (USA).

Ice Dance contenders

In the Ice Dance event, the ISU World silver medalists Charlène Guignard/Marco Fabbri (ITA) will meet ISU Four Continents silver medalists Laurence Fournier Beaudry/Nikolaj Soerensen (CAN). The Italians enjoyed a confident start to the season with victories at the Lombardia Trophy and Shanghai Trophy while the Canadians came third at Finlandia Trophy. Skate America bronze medalists Evgeniia Lopareva/Geoffrey Brissaud (FRA) hope for another podium finish in front of their home crowd. Other contenders are Christina Carreira/Anthony Ponomarenko (USA), Olivia Smart/Tim Dieck (ESP) and ISU World Junior silver medalists Hannah Lim/Ye Quan (KOR).

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six events: Skate America, Skate Canada International, Grand Prix de France, Cup of China, the Grand Prix Espoo (FIN) and NHK Trophy (JPN). Skaters collect points to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023/24 in Beijing (CHN).

About ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series started in 1995 (previously known a s the ISU Champions Series) and consists of six invitational international senior events and the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. The top six of the past World Championships are seeded. Competitors collect points in their events towards the qualification for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Only the top six Skaters / Couples in each discipline can qualify for the Final.
