Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won both the 1500m and the 5000m to secure her fifth career European Allround title in style on Sunday in Minsk. In the men’s tournament Sven Kramer (NED) won a record extending eighth European title. Bart Swings (BEL) grabbed silver to become the second Belgian after Dutch-born Bart Veldkamp (BEL) in 2001 (silver) to claim a medal at the European Championships.

For the first time the ISU European Speed Skating Championships will be held in the Republic of Belarus. The country’s capital and largest city Minsk will host the event on 9-10 January 2016. It could be the last time that the European Championships consist of the big combination (Men) and the small combination (Ladies). In 2017 the event will see the removal of the 10,000 m (Men) and the 5000m (Ladies), which will be replaced by the 1000m.
Heather Richardson-Bergsma (USA) won the Ladies’ 1500m and took silver in the 500m on the final day of the World Cup in Heerenveen on Saturday. She collected a total of four medals in Thialf Stadium this weekend.

The Ladies 1500m is won by Minjeong Choi (KOR), who wins for the third time in a row in the distance this season. Charles Hamelin (CAN) earns his fourth gold medal of the season, winning the Men's 1500 m.
