Sven Kramer (NED) took his fourth world title in the 10,000m on the first day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 in Kolomna. Ted-Jan Bloemen (CAN) took silver to grab Canada’s first medal in the longest distance for men. Martina Sáblíková (CZE) edged out Ireen Wüst (NED) by 0.08 seconds to take the Ladies 3,000m gold.

The ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2016 will be held at the Kometa Stadium in Kolomna from February 11 to 14. The tournament kicks off with the Men’s 10,000m and the Ladies’ 3000m on Thursday.

The fifth stop of the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series 2015/16 concluded today in Dresden (GER) with the Ladies and Men’s 500 m, second 1500 m and the Relay events. Canadians St-Gelais and Hamelin strike again with wins in the 500 m while Korea dominates the 1500 m distance with five medals. Italy (Ladies) and Russia (Men) are first time Relay winners this season.

Brittany Bowe (USA) secured the 1000m World Cup and took the track record from absent Jorien Ter Mors and holds the fastest time in Norway. Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won both the 500m and the 1000m again while Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the 3000m and is certain of winning the World Cup.

The ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 concluded today with the crowning of this year’s individual and team champions. Chunyu Qu (CHN) was crowned the Lady 2015 ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Champion, while Ziwei Ren (CHN) took the championship title on the men’s side. In the team events, the relay champions for both the ladies and men’s competition were China. Two World Records were broken today.

After forty victories in long distances and Mass Start events, Martina Sáblíková (CZE) took her 41st World Cup victory in the 1500m. Sven Kramer (NED) proved to be in good shape by winning the 5000m. Jing Yu (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m in a fast time while Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won the 1000m.

Jorien ter Mors (NED) impressed by skating the fastest lowland 1000m ever in Norway. The Chinese ladies and the Russian men dominated the 500m. Hong Zhang (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m and Pavel Kulizhnikov the men’s 500m on the first day of the first ISU World Cup in the Sørmarka Arena in Stavanger. Denis Yuskov skated the fastest 1500m.

Javier Fernandez of Spain skated to his fourth consecutive European title. Alexei Bychenko of Israel claimed a historic first medal for his country at the European Championships with the silver. Russia’s Maxim Kovtun settled for the bronze.
