You can say that high-level Figure Skating came to Korea with Yuna Kim, who took the scene by storm when she emerged out of nowhere on the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series back in 2004. The 2010 Olympic Champion was the trailblazer for the sport in the country and has inspired many young Korean Figure Skaters to follow in her impressive footsteps. One of them is Young You, who was born in the year Kim started her international career.

Femke Kok (NED) and Chung Jae Won (KOR) will defend their Ladies' and Men's ISU World Junior Speed Skating titles in Tomaszów Mazowiecki this weekend. The reigning champions skipped last week's ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating Final to skate at the Senior ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Champions in Salt Lake City. At last year's ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships in in Baselga di Piné (iTA), the Netherlands led the medal table in the Ladies events and the Republic of Korea in the Men's.

The ISU Skating Awards will take place at the conclusion of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2020 in Montreal, Quebec, at Centre Bell on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 16:00.

All was well that ended well for Kjeld Nuis (NED) on the final day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City. After losing his world record en route to coming second in the 1000m on Saturday, the Olympic champion edged out his team-mate Thomas Krol to take the 1500m on Sunday. Joey Mantia (USA) surprised himself with a big personal best and a bronze on home ice. Dutch star Jorrit Bergsma made amends for a mediocre display in the 5000m and the 10000m by winning the Mass Start in style.

There was another trio of individual gold medals for the Rep. Koreans on the final day of competition at the ISU World Cup Short Track Speedskating in Dordrecht on Sunday. While they repeated their previous day’s hat-trick, world 500m champion Lara van Ruijven(NED) won in her specialty and also grabbed gold with the Dutch team in the ladies’ relay to the delight of the home crowd. Only a photo finish prevented the Netherlands team repeating the success in the men’s event, where they were pipped on the line by Canada.

In an action-packed final day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships Ireen Wúst kept her cool to win the Ladies’ 1500m. The 33-year-old Dutch superstar relied on her vast experience to seize her career fifth 1500m world title and her 20th world title in total, including Allround honors. Russia's Evgenia Lalenkova and Elizaveta Kazelina took silver and bronze. Canada’s Ivanie Blondin won a career-second Mass Start world title after a chaotic final sprint, with Kim Bo-Reum (KOR) and Irene Schouten (NED) collecting silver and bronze respectively.

The Rep. Koreans dominated the first day of finals at the ISU World Cup Short Track Speedskating in Dordrecht, Netherlands, winning three of the four individual events on Saturday as Kim Dagyeom (KOR) and Lee Yu Bin (KOR) each topped an individual World Cup podium for the first time. Suzanne Schulting (NED) claimed her first World Cup medal on home ice by winning the Ladies’ 1500m, while China clinched the gold in the 2000m mixed team relay.
