Canada put up a valiant fight but could not prevent another Korean one-two at the Audi ISU World Cup Short Track.

World pairs champions Wenjing Sui/Cong Han of China stormed to gold and set a record Free Skating score as competition at the NHK Trophy in Osaka continued on Saturday. Russia’s Olympic silver medallists Ksenia Stolbova/Fedor Klimov claimed the silver medal, and the bronze went to Kristina Astakhova/Alexei Rogonov, also of Russia.

The 2010 Olympic champions Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir (CAN) dominated in the Short Dance as competition continued at the NHK Trophy in Osaka on Saturday. Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue (USA) edged out Italy’s 2014 world champions Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte by less than a point for second place.

Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen (NOR) secured his first career World Cup win at the start of the ISU World Cup speed skating season in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Friday. 

Their gold medal did not come as a surprise, but the world record certainly did as the Japanese Team Pursuit Ladies started the World Cup season in spectacular fashion in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Friday.

The Korean team pursuit men have raised their game significantly. To their own surprise, they started the World Cup season with a gold medal in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Friday.

Nao Kodaira (JPN) started the new ISU World Cup Speed Skating season in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, where she left off last year: winning the Ladies 500m.

Russian veteran Sergei Voronov grabbed the lead in the Men’s Short Program but Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) had to withdraw due to injury. Israel’s Alexei Bychenko  sits in second place, followed by Jason Brown (USA).

World champion Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia took a 5.42-point lead over five-time European champion Carolina Kostner of Italy in the Ladies Short Program at the NHK Trophy on Friday. Russian newcomer Polina Tsurskaya came third in the first segment of the competition.

The Olympic Speed Skating season officially starts in Heerenveen (NED) with the first leg of the ISU World Cup Long Track Speed Skating series.

No one can get the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games out of their mind as the Audi ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating series comes to Shanghai, China 9-12 November. 

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six international senior invitational events which qualify the top six skaters in each discipline (Men, Ladies, Pairs and ice Dance) to the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. This year the ISU Junior & Senior Grand Prix Final will take place in Nagoya, Japan from December 7 - 10.
