The off-season does not mean that the Skaters are just on vacation. Besides summer training and making new programs, there are a lot of things going on in the skating world. Let’s see what has happened in the past few weeks.

Figure Skating

Switch to Ice Dance

Swedish Champion Nikolaj Majorov intrigued his fans by announcing he is switching to Ice Dance and a bit later revealed who is his partner: It is Milla Ruud Reitan, originally from Norway, who competed in Ice Dance for Germany.

McKay retires

A new chapter begins as well for six-time British Champion Natasha McKay. The 2022 Olympian has retired from competitive skating but will stay involved in the sport as a coach, as British Ice Skating announced.

New Partnerships

Ice Dancers Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck finally made their partnership official and the Spanish Federation has requested Dieck’s release from the German Skating Union.

Meanwhile in Germany, the Ice Dance couple of Lara Luft/Maximilian Pfisterer split up as he has been injured for several months.

ISU World Junior Championships competitor Katarina Wolfkostin (USA) continues her career with Dimitry Tsarveski (USA). The new Ice Dance couple will train in the Michigan Ice Dance Academy with Tanith and Charlie White as well as Greg Zuerlein. Wolfkostin previously skated with Jeffrey Chen.

Germany’s Olympic Pair Skating Champion Aljona Savchenko and former partner Robin Szolkowy with whom she won five ISU World titles and two Olympic medals are reunited as coaches and choreographers in Chemnitz, where it all began.

Short Track & Speed Skating

Taking a step back
Multiple Olympic- and World Short Track Speed Skating champion Suzanne Schulting (NED) has announced she takes a step back and will follow her own pathway for the upcoming months. Most likely, she will sit out the first World Cups of the season in order to recover and properly prepare for the rest of the season.

Next level stand-up paddling
Canadian Speed Skater Ivanie Blondin (CAN) enjoys the good weather and takes stand up paddling to a whole new level as she took her dog for a ride.

Team Gold
Olympic Speed Skating champion Miho Takagi (JPN) and coach Johan de Wit (NED) have set up a relatively new team in the world of Speed Skating: Team Gold. The team welcomes top skaters from around the world to join and train for the best results possible.

They see me bikin'....
Want to know what the likes of Thomas Krol, Merijn Scheperkamp and Jutta Leerdam (NED) do in their preparations towards the next season? Well... lots of biking and repeated peak power sessions. Look at it! Just wow...

French champion
Timothy Loubineaud (FRA) likes to spend his time off the ice on roller blades and you know what... he's doing quite well! He recently won three French titles on roller blades.

Skating baby on its way!
Francesca Lollobrigida (ITA) is counting down the days as her baby boy will be with us any time soon!
