Brittany Bowe (USA) secured the 1000m World Cup and took the track record from absent Jorien Ter Mors and holds the fastest time in Norway. Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won both the 500m and the 1000m again while Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the 3000m and is certain of winning the World Cup.
The ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 concluded today with the crowning of this year’s individual and team champions. Chunyu Qu (CHN) was crowned the Lady 2015 ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Champion, while Ziwei Ren (CHN) took the championship title on the men’s side. In the team events, the relay champions for both the ladies and men’s competition were China. Two World Records were broken today.
After forty victories in long distances and Mass Start events, Martina Sáblíková (CZE) took her 41st World Cup victory in the 1500m. Sven Kramer (NED) proved to be in good shape by winning the 5000m. Jing Yu (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m in a fast time while Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) won the 1000m.
Chunyu Qu (CHN) concluded the day leading the Ladies classification while Hongzhi Xu (CHN) and Yongjin Lim (KOR) are tied at the top of the leaderboard in the Men’s standings. Suzanne Schulting (NED) and Yongjin Lim (KOR) win their 1500 m events.Chinese skaters claim victories in the 500 finals: Chunyu Qu (Ladies) and Hongzhi Xu (Men).
Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron of France danced off with the gold medal. Italy’s Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte took the silver medal and the bronze went to Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev of Russia.
Jorien ter Mors (NED) impressed by skating the fastest lowland 1000m ever in Norway. The Chinese ladies and the Russian men dominated the 500m. Hong Zhang (CHN) won the ladies’ 500m and Pavel Kulizhnikov the men’s 500m on the first day of the first ISU World Cup in the Sørmarka Arena in Stavanger. Denis Yuskov skated the fastest 1500m.
Olympic Champions Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov of Russia won the Pairs Short Program. Germany’s Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot came second and Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov of Russia are currently ranked third.
Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte of Italy won the Short Dance. Defending champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron of France came second and Russia’s Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev follow in third place.
Javier Fernandez of Spain skated to his fourth consecutive European title. Alexei Bychenko of Israel claimed a historic first medal for his country at the European Championships with the silver. Russia’s Maxim Kovtun settled for the bronze.
The ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria on January 29-31. It is the first time that Bulgaria hosts these World Junior Championships where 193 skaters from 39 ISU Members have been entered to compete.
Evgenia Medvedeva (RUS) captures Ladies Short Program Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia captured the Ladies Short Program followed by teammates Elena Radionova and Anna Pogorilaya.
Javier Fernandez of Spain skated to a strong lead in the Men’s Short Program. Russia’s Maxim Kovtun came second and Michal Brezina of the Czech Republic placed third.
The ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 concluded today with the crowning of this year’s individual and team champions. Elise Christie (GBR) was crowned the Lady 2016 ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Champion for the second consecutive year, while Semen Elistratov (RUS) took the championship title on the men’s side. This was Elistratov’s first ever European Championship title. In the team events, the relay champions for both the ladies and men’s events is Netherlands.
