There is no stopping Suzanne Schulting (NED) this ISU World Cup Short Track series. The 25-year-old Dutchwoman picked up exactly where she left off in Salt Lake City (USA) last month, capturing gold in the 1500m (1) on a thrilling opening day of this season’s third meet in Almaty (KAZ).

ISU World Champion Shoma Uno reigned supreme at the ISU Grand Prix Final in Torino to claim the title, his first after two silver and two bronze. Sota Yamamoto took silver on his final debut and ISU World Junior Champion Ilia Malinin (USA) rose from fifth to earn bronze.

Kim Min Sun (KOR) continued her 500m winning streak with a third consecutive gold in the ISU World Cup in Calgary on Friday. Ragne Wiklund (NOR) took the ranking lead in the women’s 3000m, winning her second gold this season, ahead of Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong (NED) and Marijke Groenewoud (NED).

Wesly Dijs (NED) won the 1500m in Calgary for his career-first World Cup medal, while Connor Howe (CAN) came sixth to retain his lead in the ranking, before his team came second in the men’s Team Pursuit behind USA.

Kaori Sakamoto of Japan was at the top of her game at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Torino on Friday. The ISU World Champion setting a season’s best score to lead the Women’s event after the Short Program.

Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier of Canada captured the lead in the Rhythm Dance at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino on Friday, but it will be tight race in the Free Dance with Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) and Italy’s Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri close behind in second and third place respectively.

After two autumn competitions in Stavanger (NOR) and Heerenveen (NED) in November, the ISU World Cup Speed Skating Series goes into full winter mode with back-to-back events in Calgary on December 9-11 and 16-18, 2022. Outdoor temperatures dip far below zero, but the ice under the roof of the Olympic Oval will be fast. Being the only track at altitude which the Skaters attend this international season, all eyes will be on the record boards.
