The Olympic Team Pursuit is a young event that was first held at the 2006 Olympics. Teams of 8 different countries, each of three skaters, compete against each other. The time of the third skater across the line counts.

Yu-Na Kim of Korea skated to a historic gold medal in a fantastic Ladies’ competition on Thursday in Vancouver. Japan’s Mao Asada claimed the silver, while Joannie Rochette of Canada overcame a family tragedy to take the bronze medal.

22-year-old Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the 5000m for ladies today at the Richmond Olympic Oval. It was her third 2010 Olympic medal after gold in 3000 and bronze in 1500m. Stephanie Beckert (GER) (21) won the silver and 37-year-old Clara Hughes (CAN) won bronze.

In the 10,000m, Seung-Hoon Lee (KOR) took the gold medal (his second this Olympics after the silver he won in the 5000m). Ivan Skobrev (RUS) won silver, Bob de Jong (NED) bronze. The time 12:58.55 was 0.37 below the former Olympic record. Sven Kramer (NED) skated 12:54.50 but was disqualified due to an incorrect lane change.

Ireen Wüst from the Netherlands won the 1500m ladies, with 1:56.89 ahead of home favourite (and bronze medalist in the 3000m) Kristina Groves. 3000m champion Martina Sáblíková (CZE), over a second slower than Wüst was good for bronze.

After winning the 1500m in Short Track last week Korean Jung-Su Lee won the 1000m men today setting a new Olympic Record of 1:23.747. His compatriot Ho-Suk Lee won silver and Apolo Anton Ohno (USA) finished in third place.

Korean Jung-Su Lee took the Olympic gold medal in the 1500m men’s. Apolo Anton Ohno (USA), the 2002 Olympic champion on this distance, finished in second place, his compatriot J.R. Celski took the bronze.

Mark Tuitert became the first Dutchman after Ard Schenk in 1972 to win Olympic Gold in the 1500m, the blue ribbon race of speed skating. Shani Davis (USA) won silver after gold in the 1000m. Davis also got a silver medal in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Behind him, Håvard Bøkko (NOR) won bronze.

Daisuke Takahashi claimed the bronze, the first Olympic medal in Men’s Figure Skating for Japan
