The International Skating Union (ISU) is proud to announce it has been presented with the Carbon Action Award, in recognition of its global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission.

The IOC and Dow collaborated on the joint initiative to reward carbon offsets to the International Sports Federations (IFs) and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that have demonstrably reduced their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the scope of their organizations and respective events.

Climate change and sustainability is of utmost importance and the ISU is striving to improve in this area every step of the way. With this in mind, a sustainability and good governance working group was appointed in 2017 to evaluate and come up with new solutions to address good governance, environmental and social development matters within the ISU. Although some initiatives have already been put in place, the ISU recognizes there is much more to be done. The award, however, recognizes the efforts up until now and is a source of motivation that encourages to keep pushing for better practices in every activity to make a difference at our own scale.

This year, 77 IFs and over 200 NOCs were up for the Award. The ISU was one of the 14 International Federations to be recognized, while five National Olympic Committees also received the award. Further information can be found here.

The selected IFs and NOCs will receive carbon offsets, including a diverse set of climate solutions, from conserving ecosystems and avoiding deforestation to energy efficiency and renewable energy.
