Russia’s Olympic Champion Alina Zagitova skated to a confident lead in the Ladies Short Program at the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow on Friday, winning the first segment of the competition with 13 points to spare. Her teammate Sofia Samodurova came second, followed by Alexia Paganini of Switzerland.

Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov of Russia gave a stylish performance in the Pairs Short Program to take the lead as the Rostelecom Cup continued Friday in Moscow. Italy’s Nicole Della Monica/Matteo Guarise came second and young Russians Daria Pavliuchenko/Denis Khodykin are currently ranked third.

Russia’s Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin took the lead in the Rhythm Dance on the first day of the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow Friday. Christina Carreira/Anthony Ponomarenko (USA) are currently ranked second and Sara Hurtado/Kirill Khaliavin of Spain lie third.

Two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan dominated the Men’s Short Program to leave him poised for his second Grand Prix gold medal this season as the Rostelecom Cup opened Friday in Moscow. Morisi Kvitelashvili of Georgia sits in a surprise second place followed by Sweden’s Alexander Majorov as some medal hopefuls faltered.

The Japanese ladies gave the home crowd two gold medals to cheer for at the start of the 2018-2019 ISU World Cup Speed Skating season in Obihiro on Friday. Nao Kodaira won the 500m, while Ayano Sato and the Takagi-sisters Miho and Nana dominated the Team Pursuit.
