The men's 1500m final A became a Korean showdown as Lim Hyo Jun (KOR) skated to a gold medal ahead of compatriot Hwang Dae Heon.

The 21-year-old Lim sprinted to the victory in the last three laps, having been in third place with two laps to go.

The 1500m world record holder Sjinkie Knegt (NED) had been in front for the last five laps when the Korean skated past him in the end, leaving the Dutchman with the bronze medal.

Home favourite Shaolin Sandor Liu (HUN) missed the podium after a penalty and his brother Shaoang Liu finished in sixth place.

"We know that the Korean skaters are very strong. It was obvious that they were going to win something here and they did a pretty nice race," Shaoang Liu said.

Samuel Girard (CAN) was hit by Hiroki Yokoyama (JPN) in the semi-final and fell, having to settle for a spot in the Final B.

The 21-year-old Canadian won his final, regaining some of his confidence.

"Bad things happen in Short Track and you have to deal with it. I won the Final B so I am happy with it," Girard said.

"We are here for a spot at the Olympics so that's the focus, rather than winning a gold medal here.

"I'm happy with my place here and there are three other World Cup competitions to do and I'll try to do better in them."
