Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman and Ethan Cepuran (USA) took home their second World Cup trophy in the Team Pursuit, after also having won the event last season. Team USA had to leave the gold medal in the third and final race this season to Norway, but silver was enough to keep the Olympic Champions at bay in the ranking. Kjeld Nuis became the all-time most successful Dutchman in 1500m World Cup races, while Peder Kongshaug (NOR) took his career first individual World Cup medal in second place.

Jordan Stolz (USA) came, saw and conquered in Inzell, Germany, last weekend. The 18-year-old American had skipped the first two ISU Junior World Cups, because he was busy winning medals at senior level, but won three individual gold medals and a silver at the third and final leg. Stolz thus underlined his candidacy for the World Junior title this week (February 10-12, 2023) on the same track. The Netherlands were the most successful nation in the Junior World Cup Series this season, winning five World Cup rankings. Norway dominated the neo-senior category, winning four World Cup rankings.

After the first half of the Speed Skating season, Miho Takagi (JPN) comfortably leads the Women’s 1500m World Cup ranking. Collecting silverware on the ice may seem to be business as usual for the Japanese superstar, but Takagi seriously contemplated hanging up her blades after winning three Olympic silvers and a gold in Beijing last season. She eventually decided to go on, but chose a different path, leaving the Japanese national squad to team up with former Japan national coach Johan de Wit (NED) as her private trainer.
