Anastasia Mishina/Aleksandr Galliamov led the Russian pairs to a podium sweep as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2019. Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) skated off with the Junior Men’s gold medal, while Alexandra Trusova (RUS) and Ice Dancers Marjorie Lajoie/Zachary Lagha (CAN) struck gold as competition wrapped up in Zagreb, Croatia, Saturday. Alexandra Trusova of Russia jumped into the gold medal position in Zagreb on Saturday to retain her title as World Junior Ladies champion. Overnight leader Anna Shcherbakova, also from Russia, had to settle for the silver medal and Ting Cui (USA) claimed the bronze.

Marjorie Lajoie/Zachary Lagha of Canada danced to the top of the podium at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2019 in Zagreb on Saturday to end a 13-year gold medal drought for Canadian Ice Dance at the junior level. Russia’s Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva/ Nikita Nazarov claimed the silver medal in their debut at the event and their compatriots Sofia Shevchenko/Igor Eremenko took the bronze.

Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) battled his way to the gold medal in an unpredictable Men’s Final at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2019 in Zagreb on Friday. Russia’s Roman Savosin rose from sixth to claim the silver medal and the bronze went to Daniel Grassl of Italy.

Russian champion Anna Shcherbakova skated to the lead in the Junior Ladies Short Program at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb on Friday, outscoring teammate and defending World Junior champion Alexandra Trusova by less than half a point. Ting Cui (USA) finished the day in third place.

Led by Anastasia Mishina/Aleksandr Galliamov, Russian pairs swept the podium at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships on Thursday. Apollinaria Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov claimed the silver medal while overnight leaders Polina Kostiukovich/Dmitrii Ialin settled for the bronze. It was the fourth podium sweep by Russian pairs at Junior Worlds after 1985, 1986 and 2018.

Marjorie Lajoie/Zachary Lagha of Canada danced into the lead in the Junior Rhythm Dance as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2019 continued Thursday in Zagreb (CRO). Russians Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva/Nikita Nazarov and Sofia Shevchenko/Igor Eremenko came in second and third respectively in the first segment of the Ice Dance competition.

World Junior silver medalists Polina Kostiukovich/Dmitrii Ialin of Russia topped the Junior Pairs Short Program ahead of teammates Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov and Anastasia Mishina/Aleksandr Galliamov as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships continued Wednesday in Zagreb (CRO).

Camden Pulkinen (USA) took the lead in a very competitive Junior Men’s Short Program as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships opened in Zagreb (CRO) on Wednesday. Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) placed second followed by Italy’s Daniel Grassl.

Italy’s Daniel Grassl skated into the spotlight this season by finishing sixth in his debut at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in January. Now the cheerful 16-year-old debuts at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships this week in Zagreb (CRO) and hopes to continue his ascent this season.

Zagreb has hosted the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships once before in 1999, and has hosted the ISU European Figure Skating Championships several times as well as ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating events.

Finnish skater Viveca Lindfors has been on the rise this season and topped it off by taking the bronze medal at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk (BLR) in January. It was the first ISU Championship medal for a Finnish figure skater since Kiira Korpi had won silver at Europeans in 2012.
