Haein Lee wins gold medal at the third ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Riga (LAT). Andrei Mozalev and Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva/ Andrey Filatov added two gold medals to Russia‘s impressive collection and like Lee have a good chance to qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final in Torino (ITA).

Kamila Valieva (RUS) landed a quadruple toeloop on her way to gold at the first ISU Junior Grand Prix event of the season in Courchevel and Alysa Liu (USA) hit a quad Lutz in her winning Free Skating at the second ISU Junior Grand Prix in Lake Placid. They now have joined the exclusive Ladies‘ quad club.

Alysa Liu (USA) made history by becoming the first female skater to land a triple Axel and a quadruple jump in one program at the ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Lake Placid. Shun Sato (JPN) secured the second consecutive gold medal for the Japanese junior men on the circuit this year while the Russian pairs, led by Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmtiry Rylov, continued their dominance by sweeping the podium. Favorites Avonley Nguyen/Vadym Kolesnik (USA) struck gold in the Ice Dance event.

When Mao Asada burst on to the international scene at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Long Beach (USA) in fall 2004, she became a star right away. This tiny Japanese skater nailed the triple Axel in competition and it looked effortless. She came from Nagoya, a powerhouse of Japanese Figure Skating that already produced the legendary Midori Ito, the first woman to land a triple Axel in competition. Mao had the same coach, Machiko Yamada.

The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2019/20 started with a bang in Courchevel (FRA). Men’s champion Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) and Ladies champion Kamila Valieva (RUS) landed quads in their Free Skating. The winners in all three categories celebrated their maiden victory on the circuit.

The ISU herewith informs its Members that based on recent contacts with the company Icederby Europe, the ISU in principle has agreed that Icederby conducts a Test Run for 1 Lap Time Trials and Mass Start Skating Races on the 220 meters track at the Thialf arena in Heerenveen on September 7, 2019.

The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2019/20 features talented junior skaters from all over the world and provides young skaters aged 13 to 19 (21 for the male ice dance and pair skating partners) with the opportunity to compete at a high international level. The 2019/20 season marks the 23rd edition of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating that was introduced in 1997.

Japanese star Shoma Uno has surprised the skating world recently when he announced that he is leaving his long-time coaching team of Mihoko Higuchi and Machiko Yamada and has not picked a new permanent coach. “I want a new start,” the Olympic silver medalist stated on his official homepage.

Every season the ISU invites its Members to send applications to host events as part of the Challenger Series. For the season 2019/20 two applications from Asia were received, Taipei and Hong Kong, to host an event as part of the Series. During its meeting last March, the ISU Council decided to include the event proposed by the Chinese Taipei Skating Union to be held in Taipei City mostly due to more suitable dates.
