Benoît Lavoie is the first ever French-Canadian Vice-President of the International Skating Union (ISU) in its 130-year history. He served on the ISU Council from 2016 to 2022 and prior to that acted as President of Skate Canada from 2006 to 2013.

Benoît continues to pursue the development of a positive balance between honoring the ISU’s traditions while moving the organization forward with new ideas and is dedicated to taking action to provide the best and safest environment possible for everyone participating in ISU Events and activities.

Benoît started his path in skating as a Singles Figure Skater. He then became a Judge and Referee for Single Skating and Pair Skating, and later a Technical Controller for both disciplines. He was honored to judge at the Olympic Winter Games 2002 in Salt Lake City and the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Torino.

Benoît graduated with a Master’s Degree in Sports and Sciences Bachelor of Science and Education, 1984 (Université Laval, Québec) and recently retired from a long career at the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity of the government of Québec. He lives in Québec.
