The ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2016 will open in Debrecen, Hungary, on March 16. Hungary has hosted the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships twice before, in 1995 and 1991, both in times in Budapest. 177 skaters from 44 ISU members have been entered for the Championships. Following a decision of the ISU congress in summer 2012, no preliminary rounds are skated, but participants need to have achieved a total element minimum score for both Short and Free Program. All skaters compete in the Short Program/Short Dance and the top 24 single skaters, top 16 Pairs and top 20 Ice Dance teams proceed to the Free Skating/Free Dance.

Minjeong Choi (Korea) was crowned the Lady World Short Track Speed Skating Champion 2016, while Tianyu Han (China) earned the honors as World Short Track Speed Skating Champion on the men’ side. Minjeong Choi finished the weekend with 66 points and one gold medal. Marianne St-Gelais (CAN) finished second overall with 63 points. Elise Christie (GBR) concludes the weekend with with 47 points. On the Men’s side, Tianyu Han (CHN) was crowned the champion by accumulating 68 points. Charles Hamelin finished in second place overall for the third time in his career with 48 points. Shaolin Sandor Liu (HUN) finished in third place overall with 41 points.

Brittany Bowe (USA) was the queen of the ice in Heerenveen on Saturday. The World Sprint Champion won both the ladies’ 500m and 1500m, with compatriot Heather Richardson-Bergsma coming second on both occasions. Sven Kramer (NED) won the man-to-man battle with compatriot Jorrit Bergsma in the 5000m.

Marianne St-Gelais (CAN) and Shaolin Sandor Liu (HUN) lead their respective championship classification at the end of the second day of racing at the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2015. The skaters competed in the 1500 m and 500 m events today, as well as in the Relay semi finals.

Brittany Bowe (USA) started the World Cup Final with another victory in the 500m in Heerenveen on Friday. In the Men’s 500m Ruslan Murashov (RUS) grabbed gold in Thialf Stadium. Despite being absent Martina Sábliková (CZE) won a milestone 3000/5000m World Cup, with Natalya Voronina (RUS) winning the final race of the season.

The ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2016 will be held in Seoul, Korea on March 11-13. Korea will host the World Championships for the third time (Gangneung 2008, Jeonju 2001). A total of 129 skaters from 35 ISU Members are entered to compete.

The inaugural ISU Shanghai Trophy, a combined Short Track Speed Skating and Synchronized Skating event, was held at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center on March 4-6. Team Paradise (RUS) took the first Shanghai Trophy title in Synchronized Skating while the host China topped every Short Track podium.

The Netherlands finally managed to equal Norway with 36 Men’s World Allround titles on Sunday, when Sven Kramer secured his record extending eighth World Allround gold in Berlin. In the Ladies’ tournament Martina Sábliková (CZE) defeated Ireen Wüst (NED) in a hard fought battle to take her career fourth World Allround Title.

Sven Kramer (NED) anticipated on a record extending eighth world allround title, when he took a firm lead in the classification after Day 1 of the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Berlin. His rivals crashed, withdrew or just had to settle for Kramer’s supremacy in the 5000m. Martina Sábliková (CZE) and Ireen Wüst (NED) put up a great fight in the ladies’ competition. The Czech lady edged out Wüst in an exciting 3000m and leads overnight with a 0.03 margin in Sunday’s 1500m over her Dutch arch rival.
