In summer, you can enjoy many photos of Figure Skaters relaxing on the beach or having fun in ice shows, but in fact they are working a lot and very hard. It is not a secret that the foundation for success during the season is laid during the summer. And so the Skaters are taking part in training camps in mountain areas, in special camps for working on jumps or on skating skills, visiting other coaches and trying to learn something new.

Brandon Kim and Andrew Heo look like the future of US Short Track Speed Skating: both in their early 20s, the two Skaters with Korean heritage made a real impact last season. When it comes to summer training however, they are taking very different approaches.

Tennis has the holy grass of Wimbledon, Judo has the Budokan in Tokyo and Speed Skating has Thialf in Heerenveen (NED). The stadium is famous for the large crowds, cheering for every single rider at big championships, but it’s also one of the most high-tech Speed Skating facilities around the world.

Further to the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China event, the International Skating Union (ISU) is pleased to announce that the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - MK John Wilson Trophy has been allotted to Sheffield (GBR) and will be hosted as planned on November 11-13, 2022.

Mass Start Olympic Champion Bart Swings (BEL) has claimed five medals in Roller Speed Skating at the World Games 2022 in Birmingham (USA), four of them gold. He also became the first athlete to win a gold medal at the World Games and the Olympic Winter Games in the same year.

Two-time Olympic Champion and Figure Skating super star Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) has retired from competing. The 27-year-old announced at a press conference today in Tokyo (JPN) that while he plans not to compete anymore, he wants to continue to perform in ice shows and to pursue his goal of landing a quadruple Axel.

It is with deep sorrow and regret that the International Skating Union (ISU) learned of the death of ISU Honorary President, Mr. Ottavio Cinquanta who passed away on July 18 aged 83.

When considering Short Track Speed Skating trainings and season preparation practices, there are several different approaches that athletes use to reach maximum fitness and technical sharpness. 

Today (July 12, 2022), the German Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) published a decision upholding the constitutional complaint of Ms. Claudia Pechstein challenging two decisions of the Federal Court of Justice which had been issued in 2016.

Figure Skating is going where it never has gone before. As the sport continues to grow worldwide, it now has arrived in Peru in the west of South America. Peru is the newest of the ISU Figure Skating members and it is the fourth South American country to become a full member after Argentina, Brazil and Chile. Additionally, Ecuador is a provisional member for Figure Skating.
