In collaboration with the ISU Center of Excellence (CoE) in Salt Lake City (USA), the ISU launches two new courses tailored for Ice Skating Coaches: the essentials of Exercise Physiology science in Speed Skating on the one hand, and a program specifically dedicated to Children Coaching on the other.

Exercise Physiology Course

Developed by Carrie Needham, Ph.D. Department of Exercise Science from the Salt Lake Community College, this course covers a variety of Exercise Physiology related topics implemented in the field of Speed Skating.

This course includes the following sections:

  • Bioenergetics – Energy for Sport
  • Energy Pathways – Where Energy comes from
  • Delivery of Oxygen – Cardiorespiratory Structure and Function
  • Muscle Structure and Function
  • Physiology of Speed Skating
  • Training Principles
  • Training Adaptations

Coaching Children

Coaching young children entails different requirements than coaching teenagers or young adults. Every age group has particular needs that need to be rightly understood to better adapt the training purposes. In this course, Coaches will learn how to work on communication techniques with young skaters and along with optimal motivational strategies.
