Today, April 6, 2021, the International Skating Union (ISU) proudly celebrates the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace for the fourth consecutive year. Sport, peace and unity is more important than ever in these times of crisis.

The International Skating Union (ISU) has prolonged its media rights agreement with Infront for another four seasons. The extension with Infront runs until end the of 2026/27 season and includes coverage in China from the 2020/21 season.

Reigniting the British Speed Skating tradition, that’s what Ellia Smeding, Cornelius Kersten are after. “Great Britain has a great Speed Skating history, but it’s forgotten”, says Kersten. The British Speed Skating couple aims at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing and set up their own coffee company to finance their campaign.

A knee injury kept Short Track Speed Skater Julie Letai (USA) side-lined until mid-October 2020, but Letai bounced back to compete in the Ladies’ Relay at the 2021 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.

The entries for the Beijing 2022 were assigned according to the result of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021 and the designated Qualifying Event Nebelhorn Trophy which will take place on September 22-25, 2021 in Oberstdorf (GER). Russia leads the six ISU Members that have qualified for the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating in Osaka (JPN), April 15 to 18, 2021. The ISU World Team Trophy is a biennial event.

The 2019 World silver medalists Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov (FSR) danced off with their first World title as competition wrapped up at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021 in Stockholm (SWE) on Saturday. The USA’s Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue earned the silver, their third consecutive World medal, while Canadians Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier moved up from fourth place to capture the bronze.

Nathan Chen (USA) came from behind to soar to his third consecutive World title at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm (SWE) on Saturday. Newcomer Yuma Kagiyama of Japan claimed the silver medal while two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan settled for the bronze.  

“Growing up, I was playing every sport under the sun”, says Brittany Bowe (USA) with a smile. Had she not become an Olympic Speed Skater, she might have been a professional basketball player. Having won five world titles and an Olympic bronze medal, the 33-year-old sprinter is proud of her achievements so far: “I’ve checked almost everything of my list of goals, but there’s one thing that’s outstanding, an Olympic gold medal.”

In her ISU World Championship debut Anna Shcherbakova led FSR to a clean sweep of the Ladies podium in Stockholm (SWE) on Friday. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva claimed the silver medal six years after taking the World title while Alexandra Trusova climbed from 12th place to earn the bronze. 

The health and safety of all participants of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021 remains the number one priority for the International Skating Union (ISU).

The top three couples are separated by just three points.
