Following its Keep Training Series, as part of its #UpAgain Campaign, the International Skating Union (ISU) is joining the International Olympic Committee for Olympic Day 2020, that will see Olympians, athletes and fans all over the globe get active in the world’s largest 24-hour digital Olympic workout. Twenty-three Olympic athletes have already joined the recording of an official Olympic Day workout video, and on Olympic Day, athletes from around the world will lead live workouts at 11 a.m. local time across 20 time zones. The ISU will participate with 6 workouts throughout the day on @ISUFigureSkating and @ISUSpeedSkating Instagram Live.

After a superior display in the 1500m at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating race in Calgary a week before the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships, Miho Takagi (JPN) was the outright favorite to win a career-first single distance title, but she did not. Ireen Wüst relied on her vast experience to seize her career fifth 1500m world title and her 20th world title in total, including Allround honors.

On the last 10 occasions it had been contested, Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the Ladies’ 5000m title at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships, so when she clocked a world record over the distance at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, it seemed only a miracle could keep her from claiming an 11th consecutive gold. That miracle went by the name of Natalya Voronina.
