After winning a glut of silverware at the ISU Junior World Championships last weekend, Jordan Stolz (USA) had no problem getting back into the swing of things on the senior circuit with victory on the opening day of the final ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The 18-year-old Junior World Champion beat Olympic champions Kjeld Nuis (NED) head-to-head in the last 1500m World Cup race of the season on Friday, with Nuis’ second place securing him the World Cup trophy in the distance.

Angel Daleman (NED) became the youngest ever Allround World Junior Champion in Speed Skating. The 15-year-old Dutch girl won four individual gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Inzell (GER). Jordan Stolz (USA), who already made a name for himself with World Cup victories in the senior ranks earlier this season, won the Men’s Allround title, racking up a total of four individual golds and two bronzes.

After Marijke Groenewoud (NED) beat Miho Takagi (JPN) in the 1500m to take her first World Cup win on Saturday, Kimi Goetz (USA) did the exactly same thing in the 1000m on Sunday. On the podium, the 29-year-old American was accompanied by compatriot and world record holder Brittany Bowe, who won her first World Cup medal of this season in third place behind Takagi. Groenewoud added another gold to her tally on Sunday, concluding a superb weekend with a powerful sprint in the mass start.

Ragne Wiklund (NOR) was also faster than Takagi, but the 28-year-old Japanese secured the World Cup trophy with bronze in the penultimate race of the season. The Canadian women secured their fourth consecutive World Cup trophy in the Team Pursuit, wrapping up their third consecutive perfect season with a narrow win over the Netherlands and Team USA.

The Italian endurance specialist had already won the 10,000m World Cup race in Calgary earlier this season, but World Cup leader Roest had not lost a World Cup 5000m race so far this season. Earlier on Wataru Morishige (JPN) won the 500m, ahead of World Cup leader Laurent Dubreuil (CAN) and second-ranked Yuma Murakami (JPN).
