It is with much delight that the International Skating Union (ISU), in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was today able to finally award the medals of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event during a special ceremony held in front of thousands of passionate sports fans at the Champions Park in Paris. Team USA and Team Japan received their well-deserved gold and silver medals respectively in the presence of ISU President Jae Youl Kim. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), which obtained the bronze medal, was not represented at the ceremony due to the ongoing suspension of the ROC.

The International Skating Union (ISU) has taken note of the CAS decision released today to dismiss the appeal filed by the Canadian Figure Skaters, Skate Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee (read CAS decision here), which confirms the following re-ranking of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Figure Skating Team Event results, as announced by the ISU on January 30th:

The International Skating Union (ISU) welcomes the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reject the appeals placed by the Russian/ROC appellants (read CAS Press Release) in relation to the re-ranking of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 Figure Skating Team Event. The CAS decision confirms the ISU announcement of January 30th for the first and second place teams. However, the final confirmation of the re-ranking for the third place team remains pending until the CAS reaches a decision regarding the Canadian appellants.

Numerous ground-breaking decisions were made to enhance the sports and modernize the organization, marking the ISU’s entry into a transformative new era.

The Branch sessions for Speed Skating and Figure Skating took center stage on the third and fourth day of the ISU Congress, during which the Special Regulations and Technical Rules were discussed and voted on. These split sessions underscored the ISU’s commitment to addressing the individual needs in each discipline, while fostering major improvements for the growth of the ice-skating community.

On the second day of the ISU Congress, the assembly of delegates voted in favor of several major proposals advancing the modernization of ice-skating sports. Among these are a resolution to reform the ISU Constitution, the launch of the Short Track World Tour (evolution of the World Cup Series) and allowing manufacturers to appear on costumes and skates, opening up opportunities for fashion brands and skate manufacturers to partner with Figure Skaters.
