Following the cancellation of the ISU World Cup Speed Skating Competitions and ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Competitions announced in ISU Communication No. 2345, the ISU Council concluded that the first ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating Competition in Minsk (BLR), on November 28-29, 2020 cannot be held as planned and is therefore cancelled.
The stars that impress us at the World and Olympic stage today all have started out at the junior level and began their journey with the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. One of them is Vincent Zhou (USA), who claimed the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships title in 2017. The next season, he made the Olympic team and finished a respectable 6th in PyeongChang. In 2019, Zhou claimed the bronze medal at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships and the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.

Kristen Santos (USA) broke through in Nagoya for her first individual ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating medal, claiming bronze in the Ladies’ 1000m.

Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii were both Single Skaters when they teamed up end of 2015. It took them less than a year to get assigned to their first ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event in Saransk (RUS) in fall 2016. During its online meeting of August 28, 2020, the ISU Council received a report from the appointed Working Group elaborating on the ongoing negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sporting events and the feedback received from the organizing ISU Members of ISU Speed Skating and Short Track Speed Skating Events.
In April 2005, the Scandinavium in Göteborg was packed with thousands of screaming fans who attended the fifth annual ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. Unlike in 2012 and 2018 when the ISU event would return to Sweden, 2005 was a milestone year: it was the first time Senior teams were required to perform an overhead group lift on the ISU World stage.

Nevertheless, in the spirit of the #UpAgain campaign, Junior Skaters will take centre stage over the course of the next few weeks. The ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2017, 2018 and 2019 will be streamed on the Skating ISU YouTube Channel, starting on September 5, 2020 at 12:00 noon (CEST). Ted Barton will also be conducting exclusive interviews with some of the athletes who competed during the Championships and will be reviewing the programs of the top three contestants of each event.
