Kaori Sakamoto (JPN) can look back at an exciting and successful season with many firsts: she reached her first ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, competed at her first ISU World Figure Skating Championships, won her first National title at the senior level and went to her first ISU World Team Trophy.

The World's best Figure Skaters including reigning Olympic Champions Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) and Alina Zagitova (RUS), 2019 World Champion Nathan Chen (USA) and four-time Ice Dance World Champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron (FRA), two-time World Pairs Champions Wenjing Sui/Cong Han (CHN) as well Olympic, World, European and Four Continents medalists are set to compete in the six events of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series in the 2019/20 season. The series also features accomplished veterans, crowd favorites as well as the next generation of up and coming Skaters.

The ISU Council decided to provisionally allot the following ISU Championships for the seasons 2020/21 and 2021/22. The allotments of all other Championships are kept pending until the next scheduled ISU Council meeting in October 2019 and further information regarding the decisions of the Council in Rome, will be published at a later date.

Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov rose from the ashes this season to capture the silver medal at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships and at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final as well as the National title and medals at the ISU Grand Prix series and other international events.

The most successful Dutch Olympian of all-time was competing at the ISU European Speed Skating Championships in Collalbo, only a few days after having buried her best friend and 2008 ISU World Allround Speed Skating Champion Paulien van Deutekom. A number of Synchronized Skating teams have been climbing in the World rankings, shaking things up both nationally and internationally. While the following teams finished off of the podium at this year’s ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, they achieved several breakthroughs this season that reflect a growing and competitive future for the sport.

Often, Short Track Speed Skating is a fierce battle between nations. But in the Men’s field this season, it was an internal struggle between the Republic of Korea’s incredible pool of young skaters – culminating in an epic brawl at the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Once upon a time, there was a young boy in Spain who followed his older sister into figure skating. Nobody could ever imagine what would come out of that as figure skating hardly even existed in Spain. It was a recreational sport, a kind of fun, maybe even weird hobby in the sunny country. And yet, thanks to his talent and hard work, the boy named Javier Fernandez rose to the very top in figure skating and became an inspiration for many young skaters from all over the world.

Two-time Olympic Champion Sang-Hwa Lee (KOR) has announced her retirement from Speed Skating at an emotional press conference in Seoul on May 16, 2019. The 30-year-old Korean sprinter suffered from a persistent chronic knee injury, which has been hampering her for years already. With 36.36 seconds Lee is the current world record holder in the ladies' 500m.
