As the excitement of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games settles, Short Track fans were given a glimpse into the future of the sport as the planet’s best young racers competed at the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2018 in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland.

The ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2018 will be held at the Ice Arena Tomaszow Mazowiecki in Poland on March 2-4.

Viktor Knoch, Csaba Burjan and brothers Shaoang and Shaolin Sandor Liu (HUN) felt the weight of a nation on their shoulders, when they entered the rink for the men’s 5000m relay final at Gangneung Ice Arena on the final day of Short Track.

The Gangneung Olympic Park, open every day, hosted all ice events and a wide variety of outdoor performances. Aside from the sporting competitions, the spectators enjoyed cultural events, sponsor booths, technology experiences, and the Super Store.

The PyeongChang 2018 Short Track competitions ended with Hungary writing history in the men’s 5000m Relay event at Gangneung Ice Arena on Thursday night. Viktor Knoch, Csaba Burjan and brothers Shaoang and Shaolin Sandor Lui (HUN) won their country’s first ever gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games. China took silver and Canada seized the bronze medal. 

It went fast and faster in the men’s 500m on the last day of Short Track at the Gangneung Ice Arena on Thursday night. Dajing Wu (CHN) won the Final A in a new world record time of 39.59. He seized China’s first gold medal at PyeongChang 2018. Korea took silver and bronze with Daeheon Hwang and Hyojun Lim. Samuel Girard (CAN), who had won the men’s 1000m gold last Saturday, finished fourth. All four men in the final finished in sub-40 second times.

Suzanne Schulting handed the Netherlands its first ever gold medal in Short Track, when she won the ladies’ 1000m on Thursday night at the Gangneung Ice Arena. Kim Boutin (CAN) took silver and Arianna Fontana (ITA) seized bronze, grabbing her eighth Olympic medal to equal the most decorated Olympic Short Track skaters of all time.

Short Track Speed Skating at the Gangneung Ice Arena conclude with the men’s 5000m Relay Final on Thursday. Korea, China, Hungary and Canada qualified, for what is set to be the climax of Olympic Short Track Speed Skating at PyeongChang 2018. Before the relay final the men will battle for the individual 500m gold and the ladies’ will compete for the 1000m medals.

Following the Ladies’ 3000m Relay Final A that took place in the Gangneung Ice Arena on Tuesday February 21, 2018, the ISU has decided to release the images that were reviewed by the referees and resulted in the penalties for China and Canada. No further comment will be given on this matter.

The expectations were high and the crowd made a deafening noise when their home favorites stepped on the ice, and Minjeong Choi, Alang Kim, Yejin Kim and Sukhee Shim delivered. The Korean ladies fought a tough battle in the Final A of the 3000m Relay, to come out on top at the Gangneung Ice Arena on Tuesday. Italy grabbed silver and the Netherlands took a surprise bronze after winning the Final B in a world record time, after Canada and China were penalized in the Final A.

Elise Christie (GBR) gave her everything at the Gangneung Ice Arena Tuesday, but the 27-year-old Briton, who damaged ligaments in her ankle crashing in the Ladies’ 1500m on Saturday, went out with a yellow card of the Ladies’ 1000m. In the men’s 500m heats, reigning World Champion went out on a penalty. 

Tuesday night’s Short Track program builds up to a climax, with the ladies’ 1000m heats, the men’s 500m heats and the ladies’ 3000m Relay Finals B and A. The crowd will look forward to Team Korea, who qualified for the Final A in spectacular fashion. Korea will face China, Italy and Canada in the battle for gold.

Saturday’s Short Track Speed Skating program in the Gangneung Ice Arena promised to be another exciting day of racing and it delivered with the Ladies 1500m Final and Men’s 1000m Final.

Samuel Girard took gold in the Men’s 1000m after an eventful evening at the Gangneung Ice Arena on Saturday. The Canadian planned to stay out of trouble in the final, and managed to stay clear of a big crash. 

Saturday’s Short Track Speed Skating program Gangneung Ice Arena makes up for more exciting competition in the ladies’ 1500m and the men’s 1000m. The Ladies will start with the heats and skate all the way to the final, while the men already finished their heats on Tuesday. They will skate the quarter, semi and finals on Saturday.
