On the last and decisive day of the 58th ISU Congress, the assembly elected with a total of 77 votes Mr. Jae Youl Kim (KOR), who becomes the 12th President and the first from outside Europe to take the helm of the International Skating Union. He succeeds Mr. Jan Dijkema (NED), who has been leading the federation over the past six years.

The 58th Ordinary ISU Congress continued on June 8, 2022 with the split Sessions for the Figure Skating and Speed Skating Branches. During the sessions, Delegates can only vote on the Special Rules and Technical Regulations, with a two-thirds majority required.

The ISU Congress voted in favor of the ISU Council Proposal 22 to gradually increase the age limit for Senior Skaters from 15 to 17 years for the sake of protecting the physical and mental health, and emotional well-being of the Skaters. There will be no change for the season 2022/23. An increase to 16 years for the season 2023/24 and an increase to 17 years for the season 2024/25 and subsequent seasons will then be implemented.

The 58th ISU Ordinary Congress will take place in Phuket Thailand on June 6 – 10, 2022. Over 280 delegates are expected to meet at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, including ISU Office Holders and delegations from ISU Member Federations.

The ISU Council approved a new ISU Athlete Safeguarding Policy and related updates to the ISU Code of Ethics. The Athlete Safeguarding Policy was drafted in close cooperation with the ISU Athletes Commission.

Two international Pair Skating Seminars  will be held this summer at the Oberstdorf ISU Center of Excellence (CoE) on July 18-23 and July 25-30, 2022.

The 58th ISU Ordinary Congress will take place in Phuket, Thailand on June 6 – 10, 2022. Every Congress sees major decisions about the future and direction of the ISU. In 2022 almost 250 proposals will be discussed and voted by the Congress. Additionally, elections for ISU Office Holders positions will take place.

The ISU Council met on-line on April 24, 2022. The ISU Council continues to follow the developments in Ukraine and their impact on ISU activity. The Council reaffirms its solidarity with all those affected by the conflict and reiterates its condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the strongest possible terms.

At its meeting on April 1-2, 2022 in Lausanne (SUI), the ISU Council approved the recommendations of the ISU Center of Excellence (CoE) Project Group for the new cycle of the ISU CoE project and the selection of 11 entities for the 4-year period of April 2022 to April 2026.
